![]() I do not recommend this Book 9 or the rest of this web novel (also available as a extremely short -volumed novel series). As always, I just wish it was longer as I felt like I was just getting started with this episode, and the book was already over. ![]() But as part of a series, I'm happy to bump that up to 4 stars. Taken on its own merits it's probably a 3-star read at best. ![]() ![]() This is a short book that moves a lot of plot points along a small amount and does progress the series, but it isn't really bundled into what I consider a whole story (containing a beginning, middle and end) in this single volume. It instead is just a collection of chapters from a larger body of work that have been bundled together in what, for lack of a better term, I will call an episode. The reason for this is that each book isn't a complete story in and of itself. But the caveat to this is that you read the whole series in a binge model, and not with a long wait between each book. It's the equivalent of a summer blockbuster, something that's dumb and fun at the same time, something that requires you to just shut your mind off and go along for the ride. It's simplistic, it's wish fulfilment, the dialogue is really on the nose, and there are some serious Gary Stu vibes coming from the protagonist but despite all that, this series is filled with charm. This is another enjoyable book when taken as part of a series, though it's not quite that good when taken as an individual entity. ![]()
